Beating the Relapse Statistics
I was comfortable in my own skin when I took my first drink.
I became uncomfortable in my own skin again when drinking stopped working for me.
I quit drinking dozens of times expecting to become comfortable in my own skin again.
Not-drinking (days, weeks, months) never brought back being comfortable in my own skin again.
When I found a whole new way of living that allowed me to be comfortable in own skin without a substance in me, then and only then, was sobriety worth having.
Soberpotamus, ( I love that name ... so creative)
Hi , I'm Snarly - nice to meet you.
Thank you so much for this post. I wish I had read this years ago.
I just printed it and added to my binder of meaningful posts.
I have relapsed so many times and for so many different reasons.
I have had a couple of one year chips and even had 9 years sober.
The 9 year relapse is by far my most painful and has been insanely difficult to recover from. Years of trying to get past 90 days.
What you post reminded me of was why I relapsed at 9 years.
Short story - I got bored.. Complacent. I let me ego take over.
Inaction.. I wanted excitement. I made a conscious decision to START drinking... well I got excitement.
Thanks again for the post.. great read . I will be reading this over and over.
