Racing heart

I've had some struggles with keeping sober this past few weeks,
but i'm determined to not give up.
There are good things happening in my life (despite the drinking), and I know those good things will be gone if I don't stop this pattern of destructive drinking.

I'm back to day 1. I have a racing heart beat, and I feel as if I can't breathe all the way in deep in my stomach. I get out of breath quickly. Is this anxiety or have a seriously damaged my heart. I'm worried.

Get to Emergency or at the very, very least call your doctor. Shortness of breath is bad news and needs to be checked with someone who can evaluate your history.

Congrats on you decision to quit, you will not regret it in the long run. Regarding your heart rate, anxiety is very common in withdrawal, but withdrawals themselves can be dangerous. Your best bet is to seek medical help, even urgent/emergency care. Better to be safe than sorry.

As Scott said, it could be 'normal' anxiety from alcohol or something else. Talk to your dr to be safe.

I'm terrified of going to emergency - hospital emergency rooms scare me. What if they find something terrible? I'll going to see a walk in doctor today, as my family doc is unavailable for appointments today.
It seems to have gotten better, but these heart palpitations are just not fun.
What i'm doing that's making it a bit better is taking a deep breath in, hold, then exhale. I hope it's anxiety...and nothing more.

It could be anxiety, or something else. Taking a walk always helped me.

The symptoms you describe are one of the main reasons I quit. It scared me. It is your body telling you its not happy about your alcohol consumption. The racing heart and shortness of breath about did me in.

I did go see the doctor, but by that time, the racing heart and palpitations were not as bad. I'm now feeling slightly nauseas, very very fatigued (like I haven't slept for a week), anxious, and hot flashes!! When the doc checked my blood pressure and heart beat, both were on the high side.
The withdrawal symptoms I will have to ride through, and if things get worse, then go to emergency. At least I have peace of mind that i'm not having a heart attack or stroke.

Call to dr. might be a good idea. During withdrawals my heart would race like it was going to explode, coupled with shortness of breath. Vitamins helped. Lots of bananas for the potassium really helped me recover.
