Talking Yet another reason why rehab was the best thing I ever did for myself

I am chock full of nuts bursting with all the great things that have come about since I went inpatient in July. The changes in my life are happening because I am making them happen! I am no longer falling over myself apologizing for yet another crappy thing I did or said. I am now pleased with my behavior. Feels great.

This is a little thing but it is huge to me. My son is in 3rd grade, daughter is in 1st. They have rately participated in any extracurricular school activites that were commitment based. Part of the reason was because I worked too much. But most of the reason was because I was in self-centered active addiction. It was impossible to do anything after work when I would come and would drink until I fell asleep around 7. My poor husband would have to handle everything.

I am filled with regret but I can't change the past. And while I should have looked harder to find something for them, neither of them showed great interest in anything in particular.

Now I am excited to say that school started two weeks ago and my son is signed up for basketball and my daughter in Girl Scouts! And I have volunteered my time to help in the classroom!

So many positive changes in my life and all the changes impact my family and our quality of life. Rehab took in a broken and unstable Bug and built her back up and armed her with tools to go back in the world and make change happen. And changes they are happening!

That's wonderful. And, don't ever underestimate the importance of things like Basketball and Girl Scouts in your kids lives. These are the things that are building blocks for them. I'm glad you're doing well.

This is wonderful news Bug! AttaGirl, way to go...Awesome that you are engaging more and they will be engaging more in good things! My mom was a girl scout leader. Fun times. We were always doing fun stuff and neat outings; camping trips, fund raisers. I still have fond memories of the mothers that volunteered at school. I believe that a good rehab is a "builder".

That is very encouraging Lightning Bug, it is good for children's socialisation to participate in things like that

Good for them and good for you

Love love hearing this! Great job and so wonderful for your family.

I know that my boyfriend considers his presence - in every way, as in being present- for his kids (especially his 14 year old daughter- his son just left for college) as one of the best gifts of his sobriety. He left me after lunch to go play racketball with her....all her volleyball games....going to hear jazz with his son before he went to school bc his thing is music....even just dealing with things like grocery shopping for the week now that she is a vegetarian (again) - LIFE!

Keep it up! Your kids are getting a great gift in a sober mom.

I have two children a few years older than yours and it just dawned on me that I will have so many more good days with them bad now that I have quit drinking. It sounds like you will too. We are lucky we stopped drinking early in their lives. We cant change the past obviously but we are fortunate that we have time on our side.

Way to go bug. Sounds like you are starting to engage in life again, and that is awesome.

I'm so thrilled to see this today, Bug!
(((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))))
And it was perfect for me to see because I'm doing an inpatient rehab program in about a month . I want to go... I really do to lick this and do whatever I can to stay Sober, so the more tools I get the better. But I also have mixed feelings about it, a little scared, a little of a rebellious feeling, excitement. So Thank you!
