No other way to escape
You can get disability for mental illness without having to harm yourself. I have a friend who is on disability for bipolar disorder. All you need is to have your doctor fill out the forms. You can also get transitional housing in the city. I have met many people in AA who lost their house/apartment, lost jobs because of alcohol and they got temporary housing with other alcoholics until they get back on their feet. The social safety net can provide services for almost anything

If you are still using, the last thing you should do is make any major decisions. Some of my worse decisions I ever made happened when I was using drugs or drinking. As mentioned earlier; your best option would be rehab or at least a stay in a detox center. IMO, those are the two best decisions a person still using can make. Living close to a major city should give you plenty of options. Also, you would be in contact with people at those facilities that can give you options that you might not be aware of. John
