Day 13
Going well, therapy 4 times a week is annoying but necessary, life and work organized and accounted for/tended to.
Physically tired most days because my sleep is still not solid but it's better.
Cravings for sugar when I never cared for it before but overall less bloated and way less haggard looking.
Much happier.

Congrats on day 13 water! Glad to hear you are doing what needs to be done even though it's a tiring time. I was exactly the same with the sugar thing...never a sweet eater in my life but really craved it early on. My guess is my body was looking for all the empty carbs I wasn't drinking anymore.

Okay so hopefully that link copies. This is more my experience with why addicts gravitate toward sugar. It has a similar effect on our dopamine receptors as alcohol. For me it actually increases my cravings in the long run because it perpetuates the addictive cycle. But early on, it's a lot better than booze!

Water - both things - the being tired & sugar craving - are common in early recovery.
I was exhausted from all I'd put myself through, but it was hard to relax & sleep. It got better, though. As for the sugar - I never cared about it either - but there I was eating candy, pastry, anything & everything. After a few months it settled down - all except for the ice cream - I still crave it.
You're doing great - happy for you.

Yeah, I always keep something sweet around my apartment just in case. I'll give in to the craving for sweets any day if it keeps me out of the liquor store. John
