Permanently got off pot and valium, now drinking and thinking.

Hi folks. It's been a long time since I've last written a thread here. I come every once in a while to read some stories.

Today I've been clean of pot for about 4months I think and clean of valium for 2 months. I actually only used valium for the short term but to my surprise got the valium wd / detox process which is quite hellish. Been off the fags for at least 3 months. Went 6 months without any nicotine and smoked for 1 week, followed By vaping until today, which has been working for me for now.

So here I am today drinking beers and reflecting on the SR community. I think this is among the only Place where there is an abundance of people who really understand.

Uppercase letters appear due to having the thesaurus on... Going to stop drinking after today.

Best wishes for a day one with alcohol. Do you have a plan?

Of my three most things used those were the two that I stopping using first.

First I stopped smoking pot and then around 5 years later gave up the valium and then a couple of years later stopped drinking. Something like that anyway. It's been a while.

Good luck and be sure that you can do -- if willing.

For those of us with addictive personalities, substances of any kind are tricky business. Glad you are getting a handle on this. We are here.

Very nice. I've followed a similar path to you then Mountainmanbob.
I think with pot at first it was the desire to experiment and try to challenge the limits, as if to come to a conclusion that this substance is pure medicine.

Well, as for science, pot is medicine for certain people with real ailment, but not in longer term. Science is exact and objective. Pot smoking caused me real problems and its withdrawal made me stay awake many nights, made me tense and vomit in the wrong places of my apartment. And all this while completely abstained from booze, nicotine and other drugs.

I learned that it's not good for me and all that intellect, I already always had it in me, it just brings it out and sadly but true, makes everything often seem so real and subtle, and while it still is true... the state is not entirely true. The brain is such an organ. Thanks for replying.

Hey Unix...I remember you. Recently taking consistent sober breaths again myself. It's good. Glad you're coming back also.

Doing the classic like I've done myself "Switching seats on the titanic"
I think I've nearly gone through every addiction on "The Addiction Tree" but unfortunately it always brought me back to my primary addiction which is alcohol.
Have you or would you be willing to go along to a 12 step meeting???
I find them very beneficial along with SR.
I really hope things work out and you can manage to stop drinking before it sucks you in deeper.
Well done on the cigs by the way, i'm finding them so hard to give up.
If you can give up them you can give up anything...
