Well a first post is a good start. I read all about the dangers of DTs after I went through them. That might be a good thing to read about. Lots of info on this site. I dont know how to post a link. Im sure someone will chime in. Welcome to the forum.
Here's a couple good threads to join:

lol love this post! So hard to know where to begin except for the not drinking part....
I'm on day 1 and so far I have been on and off this site during the day, I have started reading a book titled: "Okay, I quit - now what?" which is really good so far. I have made a list of "what I want out of sobriety" and a list of "activities I can do when I want to have a drink" in my journal - can reread these lists when I am craving etc...
so far so good!

Welcome to the site. There is a group of us who quit this month on the forum, come on over and join. Also read through the stickies on the site, a decent place to start. If you have any specific worries or questions feel free to ask, there are loads of people here who have successfully recovered from alcoholism to lead long healthy happy lives.

Welcome!
I tried giving up a year ago by cutting down, but this proved unsuccessful and slowly got back to even more, luckily I found a reason and this greatly motivated me to stop totally. My wife is amazed as she has been asking me for years not to drink so much and so regularly, but because of something happening she is amazed I just give up and go through the symptoms. I have done a post of the first week and I know I could not of done it without a reason and I realise I am the type of person who must totally abstain. Good luck.
