Hi, my name is NoRetreat70, and I am an alcoholic

new, just signed up today. Never tried anything like this before. Never tried to honestly quit before. almost 3 days sober. Now the clarity of vision, remembering arguments that made sense to me at the time, the little attitudes... even when I overcame most of the anger, I was still sometimes a drunk *****. I lost so much... I stand to lose almost everything I hold dear in my life. The pain and the anxiety of withdrawal hurts, the pain and anxiety of the others I have hurt only makes it more palpable. I have no urge to drink, but my body does. I can not, WILL not go back. I will die before I allow it. But I know, now more than ever, I can't tough man this alone. I have read a few good posts on here already. The greatest gift I can give to my loved ones right now is hope, I am here to help find a little bit more of that for myself to give. Bless you all for sharing what has helped.

Welcome, Noretreat. You've come to the right place. Keeping reading posts, and you'll find your story among many of them. We are so much the same in this fight, and it might sound cliche, but together we are stronger.
Way to go for starting the journey.

Welcome aboard Noretreat. You've found a great community that has helped many.

The best decision I ever made was to quit; for me, my family and everybody that I came in contact with. SR has helped me get my life back.

Stick around, you won't regret it.

Welcome. You've found a great site for support. Do this for yourself foremost and your loved ones will benefit. If you don't take of yourself first you can't take care of anyone else.

Welcome. You'll find lots of support here.

I'd urge you to make a sobriety plan and also consider any support groups in your local area. It's one thing staying off the booze, and it's another thing to 'recover', so you can be happy and content (and sane) in your sobriety.

Welcome to SR friend! Your post sounds like me not long ago - sick and tired of being sick and tired. I became willing to go to any lengths to stop and stay stopped. I too wanted the look of despair in my loved ones eyes to reflect hope.

Keep coming back

Very good to have you with us, NoRetreat. I felt much the same way when I found SR. The encouragement I received here gave me the strength I needed. You've made a great decision to reclaim your life.

hi No Retreat....well done on finally reaching the decision to quit drinking forever. The rest of your life lies ahead and it is fantastic.....but only as long as you never drink again.

Like others have said, try to read around the site as much as you can and write out a plan. You can't just see as you go. You will need to be organised and determined and you will need support. It will take you a little time to work through all the emotions and cravings BUT the most important thing you can do right now which is to NOT DRINK. Under any circumstances.

There are many different tools, theories, group and individual supports etc etc and different things work for different people but the only real thing that matters is that you do not, ever, take that first drink.

Maybe join the December class and talk with the folks who are just quitting this month. Good luck

You're on the right track. Stay at it long enough and you'll just outgrow it.
