Feeling low

Hi all, I quit drinking 3 days ago and have now quit my serious vaping habit. I'm not dependant on drinking on a day to day basis but I am one of those who over indulge and don't know when to stop. I have too many embarrassing stories over my drunkeness and it's a well know thing amongst my friends and family.

Over the last six months I have been smoking pot on a regular basis also.

I have quit all these habits recently and was feeling really positive about it yesterday and even earlier today. I worked out at the gym and de cluttered Mr bedroom.

Now it's evening time and the boredom and reality is setting in. Most of my friends indulge in at least one of my habits do I can't visit any of them. My husband drinks a lot because of work stresses. I really can't picture myself enjoying life without my vices. Help 😞

Welcome, cjaykingston

I felt that way at first too, but alcohol had caused me enough pain that the pro/con list was just too lop-sided.

There are many people who don't smoke pot or drink, or who only drink rarely. Have you thought about a meeting like AA or SMART or something like that? There are lots of things to do that don't involve using - hobbies, exercise, chores, volunteering, etc.

Hang around here, there's plenty of ideas for how to get over the hard first days. Keep reading and posting. We're glad you're here.

So you aren't dependent on alcohol. Can you say the same for pot and vaping?

I think if your resolve to quit the use of these harmful substances is waning after just a few days, then maybe you are more dependent on them than you are willing to admit to. What is putting the thought that you can't enjoy life without engaging is pot smoking, drinking, vaping?

I vote for your addiction to these things. We call it the addictive voice (AV).

Something prompted you to quit, to seek out SR. Don't give up on your decision to get clean and sober based on your speculation of the rest of your LIFE when you haven't gone four days yet. Give it a couple of months, a year, before you start gauging the impact on your entire life.

in the beginning it feels that way but over time yu find other things to do... and lets face it when you were doing those things you weren't really "doing" anything - just doping up. Moods pass - it's one thing I'm getting used to - having moods.

Thano you all. I know it's worth it in the long run. Just felt s little lost as I'm off work this week and I'm use to rounding off the night high/drunk or both

I'm currently watching a film with my 8 year old and munching on popcorn. I'm also having fun. It's nice having a clear head.

I'll keep you posted on how I get on over the next few days. I'm sure it will be a roller coaster ride. But I'm determined 😊

Hi cjay - it's so good to meet you. I'm glad you wanted to talk things over here.

It does take some time to adjust to our new, sober life. I felt strange early on, like something was missing. We can learn to live in a new way, & it's great to be free.

Hi both, thanks for the support. I'm going to take this one day at a time. I know with patience that it will get easier and I won't regret it.

Also this forum is really helping. I don't feel alone
