Trying this again

Hey guys! So I'm back on Day 2 of no drinking. I'll be good then fall off again. I think a lot of it is boredom and living in NY there's a liquor store or bodega on every corner so it's all just readily available. I just have to remember all the awful things that happen when I'm drinking. Have an appt with a therapist on Monday. Hoping talking it out will help. Def going to try to go to some AA meetings too. Anyway wish me luck!

Hi lostgirll, glad to hear you are on day 2, keep it up
I can sympathize with your situation as far as liquor everywhere. I also reside in a city where there are craft beers a plenty and liquor stores and bars up and down the streets, all open late and even til the wee, wee hours of the morning.
Stock up on your favorite tea. My current fave is Snapple peach diet.
We are here, let us know how it goes this Saturday night.

Thanks sleepie! Def good advice. And I do love my tea so that's an easy one. Already in bed for the night so I'm good with that part too. Appreciate it 😊

Have you thought of making a more detail recovery plan lostgirll?

This is a great link that might help you do that?

Alcohol is readily available everywhere, yet people get sober. As for boredom, you live in New York City? The largest city in the US. There's more to do than one person can tackle. So I doubt it's boredom. Maybe disenchantment with sobriety. Alcohol calls, you answer.

I think you might benefit from the fellowship of other alcoholics.

Glad to hear you're considering AA. Face to face support can make a big difference as well as give you something to do.

I can't use boredom for an excuse anymore, there's more things to do than I have time for. For me, it's feelings I don't want to have to deal with that make me want to escape.

I think you're probably right. there is certainly plenty to do but I also don't have a job right now so that's a lot of free time on my hands. no excuse though.

You can do this! I was into eating a lot of sweets too. The AA meetings are probably a good idea if you think you can't resist. Try and occupy as much dead time as you can. Therapy night, football night, movie night. I had a rhythm going that helped the first few months.

Agreed, there's a lot to do in a city, but if you're short on cash you can't always participate.
Maybe a new hobby? Something you've always wanted to do, maybe get crazy good at yoga and look amazing? Learn guitar? Learn to draw?
You can learn anything from youtube
Best wishes in sobriety xoxoxo

Welcome back, lostgirl.

The face to face support of AA sounds like a good idea. If you have a lot of time on your hands, maybe try a 90 in 90. Many AA'ers here speak of its benefit.
