weight loss not
Hi all slightly off topic here. I have been sober for 16 days now after years and years of drinking in excess of around 1000 cals a day just from vodka i would have thought i would have lost some weight by now after sixteen days. I have only lost 1 pound does anyone have any thoughts please??
I had the same thoughts - but after about a month or so, I started slimming down a little. My feeling is that there was some initial water retention since alcohol can dehydrate you.
1000 per day is 7000 calories per week which is about 2 lbs. If you're eating habits have changed, that obviously would effect any weight loss.
Congrats on over 2 weeks! That's fantastic.

I didn't lose in the beginning.....but I was shoving loads of chocolate and everything else but the kitchen sink in my mouth at every turn!
After about a month, I started actually caring what I was eating and also started working out again. Helped all the way around, mentally and physically.
But still, back to that first month....I didn't worry about it. I ate whatever I wanted without a thought. My main goal was to not drink, and if that meant I had to shove an entire large pizza in? Well, I did it!

One time a while back I quit for 2 months and the weight loss was incredible (about 15 lbs.), and I wasn't doing anything else different!
Every time after that, even when I quit for 3 months once, the weight wouldn't budge at all and I added healthy eating and exercise, it got depressing.
I think my body was confused, lol.
Focus on just getting healthy, add exercise, and the weight will come off if you keep at it.
Congrats on 16 days, that's huge!!

It took about a month before I finally lost the bloated feeling from drinking, I was probably very dehydrated too, but as time went on as my diet and lifestyle changed I started to see a drop in my weight within a healthy range.
The body needs time to heal and repair, hang in there and it'll do it's thing!!

I've only been off the booze 8 days- with the exception of a eight days ago, I've actually been 14 days. I haven't lost any weight (I'm at about the weight I should be). But looking back there were a lot of times I didn't eat much when I was drinking. Dinner always pushed back in order to drink on an empty stomach, etc. Now when I get home from work, I am looking for something to snack on rather than a bottle/ beer.

I am on day 15 and have lost 5 kg or 11lbs, However, I have consciously not replaced my drinking with food. Turning 50 in September I decided to do the major overhaul with my life, body and soul. Pretty much at the same time of giving up booze I also cut sugar out of my diet and all grains. I am following about 80% Paleo diet. I am not giving any medical advise here but just telling you what works for me. Like many say here I wouldn't worry about your diet at this stage. Giving up the bottle is your main focus, everything else will fall I place just give it time. Good luck!
I had to regain about 10 pounds I had lots in my last months of drinking.
But, I would strongly suggest exercising - walking, yoga, hiking, swimming, whatever works for you. Congratulations on your recovery.
