Mindful meditation - Why it works
I've been doing Mindfulness breathing meditation for ~ 6 weeks. I highly encourage anyone in recovery (and out of recovery) to give it an honest try. I've found that it really helps to keep me emotionally balanced and my concentration has improved dramatically. Also, it appears it helped remove that little ball of underlying anxiety that always seemed to be present. It really has helped tame those wild, tangled emotions that accompanied my sobriety.
Note: While Mindfulness meditation began with the Buddhist tradition, anyone of any faith can take advantage of the practice in a secular manner. The practice can be as simple as taking time each day to sit and focus your mind on one thing, usually your breathing.
I found this article very helpful for starting the technique: Five Steps to Mindfulness - Mindful
If you're searching for additional tools to help your sobriety, I really suggest adding Mindfulness meditation to your toolbox.
