Fifth AA meeting - finally talked to someone
Fifth AA meeting - finally talked to someone
Last night was my fifth or sixth AA meeting. I've been going in just as they start and leaving right when they end.
Last night I went to a "Closed" meeting and got here a bit early. Closed is for alcoholics only.
I was sitting at a table just looking around the room and an older guy, about my age, nodded hello. He got up, came over and introduced himself.
I told him I was a new guy and had been to a few meetings. He asked if I saw myself as an alcoholic and I said yeah, I'm an alchie.
He gave me a quick run down of the place and the fellowship. Turns out the meeting was a book study meeting so he grabbed a book for me and pointed out some of the good sections in the book. He said if I wanted to find out more hang out after the meeting and ask away.
It was cool. Not pushy.
Turns out I couldn't stay after the meeting because I had so much to do.
I'll make sure to go early next time to say hello when I see him again.
Just had to report in. And the meeting helped me deal with a craving that was hitting last night.
And I liked the closed meeting - it was a little more intense than the open meetings.

That's great to hear ClearLight, congrats on finding the courage to make the next step. Glad to hear you found someone you can connect with too, hopefully you can speak more at the next meeting.
That's great, ClearLight! There's nothing that says we need to feel comfortable instantly :-). Most people I've seen in the rooms take awhile to participate and feel like part of the fellowship.
Wooo Hooo MariahGayle. They are worth checking out.
I actually enjoy listening to everybody tell their stories. It really surprises me sometimes because I will look at someone, think I have them figured out, and then they tell their story and it's a surprise.

Beccy-
It was a study meeting. I read from the book too. Not as well as I would have liked but I made sure to read it loud. It's a good sized room.
I won't get to go again until Friday. Too busy applying for jobs and retraining myself to get a new job. (My current job is disappearing in January. - scaresme so bad.)
But I'm getting more comfortable every meeting. I plan to stay late for the "meeting after the meeting".
