Two more beers in the fridge...

To be fair, I had to get near-death drunk before I had my last (to ease the two day hangover). Someday, maybe, you can have beers in the fridge and have no interest. My house seems to be a place where people tend to leave alcohol. I currently have two beers, a bottle of wine, and half a bottle of pear brandy in my kitchen, and happily, I have no desire to drink them and I don't feel they are a threat. My wife has been sober far longer than I have and she feels the same way. We figure we'll have something other than water to offer guests.

Just an observation beerbgone, looks like you joined in 2010, but rarely post. This would lead me to believe the thought of quitting has been bouncing around in your head for awhile. Maybe its time to get serious? I'm sure you have read here, it never gets better, only worse.
So do something about it. A cycle implies repetition, and alcohol will always be available...that is a constant you cannot change. The variable is you, and you have a choice in front of you right now. What's it gonna be?

I feel for you man, I really do. I've been through many day 1's myself so I know how hard it is. It's a nightmare only an alcoholic can understand. It's beyond words. But you know you have to do this. There's just no way around it, and the longer you drink, the harder that day 1 is going to be. The sooner you get it over with, the sooner you will feel better. Everybody here knows what those first few days are like, so you have plenty of company. Hopefully you will have someone with you but if not you always have us. John
