Failing to quit
Hi all, I found this site after struggling to find a suitable local support group.
Nights and after work are the hardest, but the support group I was directed to is Mon-Fri 9 till 5, during those hours I work & I kid myself I can cope. Yup I'm a slow learner! I've been going round in circles with this for over a year!
So any advice as to where to turn at 3.00am when you feel your willpower is gone & the only people I know are awake are my other user friends!

Welcome, Neat!
One of the great things about this place is the international make-up. There are always people here so support is available 24/7.
Alcohol can be tough to beat for some. I'm one of those who hasn't had an easy time of it. Now that I'm doing better, I'm finding myself watching the Newcomers' section to welcome and encourage others. That helps me, too :-)

Welcome, Neat.
I have found the support here well beyond my expectations . Like you , I had been going around in circles for a year.
I' m only eight days into SR, but sober, and feel like I am going in a straight line for once !
Try the class of June 2015. We have US, Europe . Africa and Australian people there - someone is bound to be awake at your 3am !

I hate the night time too and evenings can be hard.
When everyone is asleep and I'm often awake.
My mind will often throw up a random thought or regret and that stops me sleeping.
I have found that trying to keep super busy during the day so I am physically tired when it comes to bed time can help.
Sometimes I put on you tube sleep hypnotherapy video's on my laptop and try and fall asleep to them.
If you have a look for them there are one's that are for insomnia, anxiety and depression.
The voice can be a bit strange at first, but I found it quite oddly comforting after listening to a few.
Is there something specific that is keeping you awake or stopping you sleeping?
A worry? A problem?
Have you googled AA groups in your area? SMART also hold meetings but not as many.
AA usually have meetings during the day but also in the evening.
Perhaps that could be a plan - to go to a different AA meeting every night for a week and find one you like and get involved.

Great to meet you Neat. I found it helpful to come here every time I was tempted - in the early days especially. You can post any time, and someone is usually around to share your thoughts with. It helped me with the anxiety I felt after stopping. I calmed down eventually - it all gets much easier.
Welcome to SR Neat. So glad you have joined us.
You will find lots of support here. Read and post often, that is very helpful.
You are not alone in this struggle. We will all be here for you.

Welcome, Neat. I too was a daily night drinker for over 10 years. Great advice already in this thread. SR got me through the tuff stuff while breaking the back on the physical addiction. Could never have done it without this place. I read and read and read here while wide awake at night.
Passing time while remaining sober early on is necessary and really hard. This is an amazing place for that.
