Alcohol is calling me...
Alcohol is calling me...
I feel alcohol calling me. I am not going to drink I am just tired of this and want it to stop. This will be 9 days for me and this is the first time in quite a few days I have had the urge this strong to drink. It is so frustrating. I was probably naïve but I thought I was past these intense cravings. I need to find something to do before I give in.
The early days are harder, but you can get through them.
Find something to distract you. You will probably find that the cravings do subside. And each time you're able to get through it, you get stronger.
It gets better, trust me. You can do this Emme. And congrats on nine days!

It's true, the early days are the hardest. The more times you deny the urge to drink, the easier it will be and the less times the urge will hit; but, it takes time.
One thing that always helped me when I had an urge to drink was to eat a big bowl of ice cream. It may sound silly, but cravings don't really last that long and by the time you finish the ice cream, the craving will be gone. Just a suggestion.

I used to walk my dogs when I had a craving to drink. Or I would eat something. When I eat a good meal, I'm less inclined to want to drink.
It gets better the longer you stay sober.

Good on you for being honest and brave enough to come in here and admit your cravings. That's a great first step in building accountability to yourself and to others!
Like others have said, the cravings will pass. Exercise, ice cream, exercising while eating ice cream, posting and reading on here, going to an AA or other recovery meeting, taking a shower--all of those are things that have worked for me in the past.
Remember you don't have to take that first drink NO MATTER WHAT. And if you don't take the first, you can't take the second or third or tenth that are sure to follow. Please check in often and thanks again for your honesty and for helping to keep me sober one more day!

It's a great one! I keep it bookmarked for easy and quick access at all times.
Thank You everyone for your responses & encouragement~ I just got home from work and my craving is subsiding. I am going to take my dog for a walk anyway, and then maybe eat some ice cream Thanks again for all of your responses.
My cravings sometimes got so strong they were physically painful. I did a lot of housework in the beginning and ate a lot of ice cream. I would not surrender to the call of alcohol. You can do it. I'm glad they got better when you got home. Keep going. One day at a time
