Conversation with my wife.
We were discussing our commitment to a new, sober life ... airing our concerns and making plans to deal with certain difficult situations (i.e. an upcoming beach trip). Anyway, I said I do not want to be that guy no one will invite over because I don't drink.
She said I should be more concerned about being that guy no one will invite over because I drank too much and acted a fool at the last gathering. That's where I was headed.
Great point.

At one point I told my wife - I might consider going to meetings but I am afraid people would know I'm a drunk.
She chuckled.........honey, they already know.
When we admit we are alcoholics we make it unanimous
Glad you're here, welcome Fox70!

My name is August West, and I love my Pearly Baker best more than my wine.
More than my wine - more than my maker, though he's no friend of mine.

yeah and you might not even wanna go.
once i got sober I didnt even wanna go to events that included beer. not really so much the temptation but my mind did a 180 and I no longer really liked being in such situations.

Just keep lips closed about sobriety, alcohol, etc. unless specifically asked and you won't lose any invitations.
Of course you can say "I don't drink anymore" etc. of course! But in my opinion, just happily leave it at that. No preaching, pontificating. The vast majority of people don't gave drinking problems. That's easy to forget sometimes.
