Addiction - a maladaptive learning process
Addiction - a maladaptive learning process
So this month's issue of Discover has a really interesting article on addiction. It covers the work of Neurologist Christian Luscher, who for 15 years has been researching to crack the elusive mysteries of addiction.
His work is suggestive of addiction actually being a natural, normal process of the brain's function that has essentially become 'hijacked', and further; that it can in fact be reversed / re-wired.
While his work as a treatment protocol centers around some quite invasive methods that as yet aren't viable for broad human application, it definitely provides some incredible new insight to the field. Worth a read for sure. I'd like to understand further how these same processes might be naturally adaptive in the addict's brain when focused in recovery on healthy addictions....
Anyway, just thought I'd share. It's worth a read!

I think it's this one but you have to be a member to read it all. I actually came across it this morning and want to read it all!
