Memory
Memory
I play guitar. I started when I was a kid and I'm now in my early 40's. I've played hundreds, maybe thousands of songs in that time. For the last few years I really didn't know how to play any songs. My fingers still knew the chords and scales, but I couldn't remember how to play any actual songs. It was a little embarrassing when every once in a while a guitar would come out and people would ask me to play. "I don't really know any songs, though."
Now, at less than 3 months since my last drink, songs are flooding back into me. Even more complex musical pieces are coming back as if I'd just learned them yesterday. And, of course, my dexterity is much improved as well. It's very exciting and makes it fun to play again.
Point is, my brain is healing. I read books and watch movies and actually remember things about them. I can discuss them. I don't feel 100%, but I see the improvement and it is very encouraging.
To the newbies, it does get better. It takes time, but clarity and memory do improve. You just gotta stick with it.

Just reading through my post and thought I should note: I realize that I, too, am a newbie. Still very early in this myself. Though in the past I had stopped drinking for a couple of weeks here and there, I never saw the kind of cognitive improvement that I see now. And I look forward to seeing more improvement as the healing continues.
