Vision of the past

There is a little Mom and Pop store I visit where I used to buy my cheap vodka. When I sobered up I did not set foot in the place for 3 years.

Today I have no problem going there so I stopped in at 7:30 AM and the guy ahead of me was buying a pint of cheap vodka.

I said a silent prayer for him and thanked God that I am not that person anymore.

Awesome.

I had a similar experience recently buying milk in a corner shop that used to be one of my vodka stops.

Grateful here as well!

And to many in society, people afflicted are judged. The poor soul was probably near withdrawal, only trying to avoid getting sicker.

That's very cool, MIR.

I think it's always good to remember the addicts who are still suffering.

Good on you Mir! Sounds like you quitting hasn't put them out of business

I had a similar experience Friday. I was having dinner and a man got up from his barstool, looked like he was choking back vomit, and stumbled to the valet to get his car. I was both disgusted and profoundly saddened as I watched him. I said a prayer that he would be safe, and also that no one would be hurt as a result of his selfishness.

I used to wait in the liquor store parking lot for it to open in the mornings. They all open here at 9am. And then I'd be the first one in to buy my vodka. I don't want to go back to that again.

Para - you just reminded me of a period last year when I was really sick and hitting the bottle hard. It was so visceral I tasted the sweet disgusting juices I used to mix with the vodka.

Yuck.

Lol I hope the 5 or so bottle shops I used to attend miss me. I'll have to disappoint them though as I'm not returning.

If I was not in such an alcoholic haze I could have bought a ton of 5 o'clock stock, sold short, then quit. I could have made a ton of money but would that be considered insider trading?

I can't help notice the guys standing in line with a bottle a few minutes before the cutoff (to sell). Also the visibly-drunk native folks buying a bottle of Listerine. But for the grace of God...
