Need Answers...
Hi - I'm Opie!
As part of my treatment program I need your definitions of abstinence and recovery from five people. The answers you give me will be shared in class with my peers also in treatment.
Thank you...

Hi Opie,
My answers will be boring. Abstinence in my case means never using alcohol again. Recovery in my case means refusing to ever drink alcohol again for as long as I live. I've been sober for 20 days now.
Hugs, Sandy

I'll give ya my 2 cents... ;o)
Abstinence for me is refraining from compulsively using any substance or activity that causes me harm.
Recovery is the process of shedding human programing and human dysfunction and becoming the person that God originally meant for me to be.

Hey Opie, welcome and good luck in treatment. Abstinence means to me, not only Not Useing Any Mind Altering, Mood Altering Drugs of any kind including Alcohol. Also abstining from that whole way of life and thinking, changing your playground, playmates, and playthings. This has to happen in order to have any hope of true recovery. Recovery to me is my second chance in life, a chance to right some of the wrongs I'm responable for, to be forgiven, to forgive myself, and to be able to experience true Happiness. I pray that when your treatment is done you will come and start your recovery..........Peace Opie.

undefinedThank you for your response to my questions. This is my last week of class in the treatment program and my last homework assignment.
Now I can move forward in sobriety, it's a wonderful feeling!

Abstinence ... To make a conscious DECISION to refrain from drugs and/or alcohol.
Recovery ... To take ACTION STEPS in a committment to change the way I live my life. To become a better person and freeing myself of the grips of addiction during that process.
