How to cope

I've been a heavy drinker for the past 3 years. I've quit yesterday and my withdrawal symptoms are not too bad except for the insomnia and night sweats. I hope I can overcome this as it is very worrisome!

Hi TH, apart from physical withdrawal do you have a plan to deal with cravings and old habits?

Welcome TryingHard

you can always see your Dr if you're concerned but those types of symptoms will fade

We need to fight through the tough times in order to get and stay sober. It's all well worth it in the end.

Thank you everybody! I've bought a home gym to keep me occupied after work and also take the kids for a stroll. Any advice?

Your action plan sounds good. If you're used to drinking after work, having some alternative activities, or even a ritual around say a cup of tea, helps you avoid old habits. Try not to get to hungry or thirsty.

Welcome to SR. As Dee said, the physical symptoms case. If you truly get worried, see a doctor but on the whole, they are more annoying and unpleasant than anything. Get rest, keep hydrated. Post and read here.
