SR family

I really enjoy seeing an actual picture of people who post on here. I understand why some people choose to be anonymous. I have tried to post my own photo but couldn't get it to upload. Am I crazy to wonder if anyone else has ever thought about a SR convention? I guess I can wonder out loud because I'm anonymous but I'd really like to hear thoughts on this subject.

I got to meet one of the members here when I adopted a cat from her. It was nice being able to meet someone I'd only known online.

The cat is very nice, by the way.

That would be interesting. I'd be there, for sure!

I haven't seen too many pics of people on here, but I realized after reading your post that I do project my own idea of what people might look like to their posts. Voices, too.

I don't have any pictures of myself to show at the moment, but here's a brief description: I'm very, very handsome in the dark.

I think it's been brought up before then a moderator pointed out policy about being anonymous and internet predators etc etc. Probably a liability thing for this site. I've seen conventions of anonymous online gamers where everyone met face to face having only met via the Internet, but I understand why a site would not want to promote that

The other answer is seek a local support group if you want face to face.

I can understand being unknown, but that isn't me, I don't mind putting my pic up. Who knows we might be walking down the street bump into each other, that would be wild.

I met my husband online in a chat-room before I even knew I was an alcoholic, that was 16 years ago though. On the safe side you just have to meet people in public places at first or have someone go with you that you trust.

I haven't met anyone here though, even though I seen some people who are from Indiana. Hosier Rocks!! LOL!!

Hi all,

As Tang says I think the site has to be cautious as there are some unscrupulous people out there (mindless trolls etc)

Hey Trachemys I didn't realise you are George Clooneys better looking younger brother

I've actually gotten to meet a few friends, from here, over the years Have talked to several others on the phone.

I was helping my dad drive, on a long trip, and after saying "I have a friend that lives here" over and over, he grinned and said "is there ANYWHERE you don't have friend from that recovery thing you're on?"

The great people here have seen me through my worst and best of times.

Hugs and prayers,

Amy

It's never been mentioned to me as a liability issue - I think it's just common sense.

In this facebook/twitter world I think folks have become a little relaxed with online relationships.

For the most part that's usually fine - but not everyone online is as well adjusted as you or I.

I was once trolled on another forum many years ago - the trolling spilled over into real life. It was incredibly frightening.

To balance that, I have many good and dear friends I've made here and elsewhere...but I don't think it's a bad thing to have boundaries online

I can totally understand people wanting to be anonymous...in my case I keep the picture up to keep myself accountable. I don't want to let my friends down.
