Frightened
Hi All,
I know I should just take one day at a time, but work are sending me away for 2 weeks as from Sunday, away from my Partner. I am on day 10, I am terrified that when I am away by myself I will start drinking again.
I can't not go because my brother is my boss and he is a nasty piece of work when he wants to be. (he gave me 4 weeks notice once for asking for a pay rise)
It can be quite stressful working on site with a client. I really desperately don't want to go back to drinking.
This really couldn't of come at a worse time.

Research the location and find some face-to-face support, even if it isn't a group you normally go to. Make plans ahead of time for every evening and stick to them.
The bottom line is that you can maintain your sobriety by never picking up another drink.

Even though it sounds bad, sometimes the change of pace might be just what you need. When I quit for the last time, I did it just before going on vacation. A huge trigger for me with lots of opportunities to do the wrong thing. I managed through it. It was tough, but I think the change of location also helped.
So make a plan. Think back on all the times you traveled and when drinking would take place. Then make a plan for each situation to distract yourself from the temptation. Also, when you return from the trip successful, think how great that will feel. You'll be at close to a whole month!

San, if you really don't want to go back to drinking, you don't have to.
If you feel compelled, expected, cajoled, bullied or forced to drink with clients then maybe it's time...time to either stick your flag in the ground, say 'no more' and be a nondrinker...
or find another job?.

Thanks Guys, I am going to look into groups near there, I never thought of that. I will also try to put things in place to help me handle the stress. Maybe take some relaxation tapes with me.
Dee I am selling my house, so as soon as that is sold and we pay off the mortgage, I am out of this place. I actually don't care about taking a lower paid job, I just want to be happy in my work. Work can definitely have a big impact on an alcoholic.
Thanks again. This site is brilliant. I love the support and advice you all give. xx
