making a firm decision

You remind me of me
in the old days when I wanted so bad to stop drinking
I would go to the store and buy a 12 pack of beer
bring it home and drink one or two
then give the rest to my renter next door
this went on for some time
he was enjoying my misery immensely

but, the day finally came when I made a (firm) decision to stop drinking

I'm getting stomach cramps now but it's bearable, I'm drinking tomato cup a soup....

The last thing I want at the moment is alcohol.

Thanks all, good luck to anyone else wanting rid of this, I first drank at 14 years old and got smashed. I've been getting smashed for 25 years now, I'd love to have turned my life around by the time I'm 40,

I have a good life, 2,lovely boys, an ok husband (lol!) live in a great village, am on various committees for community events, just have this dark secret drinking problem that ruins every night and shadows every day.

ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!

I HOPE THIS RESOLVE CONTINUES X

nice wife's and families
expensive homes which they owned
many good friends

Replying to this post because this was me 2 years ago, under my first username, I searched and found myself so I thought I'd tag myself on it..

Well it took me another 5 months from that post to get to the doctors but I did and got a home and dry detox, now I've been sober 38 days.

I think I would still have been going round in circles if I hadn't seen my doctor and made it REAL and had a PLAN and been ACCOUNTABLE. All of that made a HUGE difference.

many times have I poured it away? Too many 😥

But I'm drinking 1-2 bottles of wine every night now, getting blackouts, not remembering whole conversations, losing hours every night, had a rare night out last weekend and fell over outside the pub, remember nothing of it, just had an injury the next day 😳

I must be so embarrassing, so irritating, I hate it.

I want to change, I can't remember the last time I did not drink for a day.

Day one.

I'll report back later if I made it, I have no idea how I will fall asleep tonight?

Hi, my wine has also gone down the sink this morning. I wish you all the luck in the world Ludo. Keep posting!!!
Any tips welcome![/QUOTE]

Good for you for recognizing it is time for a change. Also, I know just how hard it is to go without wine but it can be done. I was up to one and a half bottles a night of red. I loved to drink but hated the hangovers and the constant obsession with getting more.

To answer your question about sleep, I took low doses of melatonin in the first few days which helped me rest. I'm on day 9 and feeling better every day. I hope you do too. One other thing that you might find helpful is to remove all wine related stuff. I tossed out all the glasses, cork screws, decor, corks, etc. out of sight, out of mind.

Stay well and be careful with trying to detox. I agree with others about speaking to your doctor. That was key for me.
