Counselor

Today is going to be my first day for visiting a counselor to address my addictions. I was not comfortable in a public setting like AA, so I am hoping that this route will allow me to address my issues in a more private setting.

I've been to counsellors at certain times in my life and it's always been a big help.

I just started seeing a counselor myself, I see that as a step in the right direction.

That is great, Nuke. I hope it works out well for you. I love my therapist and always look forward to my sessions, they are very interesting in many ways, for both of us. He's helped me improve aspects of myself that I was totally lost at... And yes I also like the private setting. Good luck

Going to a counselor was one of the best decisions I made in my recovery. I like to make lists during the week whenever I have an issue so I can remember to talk about these things with him.

Right on Nuke. I think one common thing we all share is the inability to open up about all the roots of our demons. We don't want people to know the things that make us hurt. Having a counselor to listen to you and not judge is a great way to be able to really open the doors of your mind. My only advice is stay with it and don't hold anything back. They are there to listen and trust they've heard it all. Good luck.

yup, counselling was a saviour for me. Have been numerous over the last 10 years. The one thing I want to say is, be honest. When I looked at my counselling past, I realized the first few times I went, I didn't get much out of it and ended up right back where I started. Being dishonest or withholding information only hurt me in the long run.
It can be a bit scary and daunting if you aren't used to opening up about things, but do your best to be really, truly honest with them and yourself. You will be the one reaping the rewards down the road
good luck! I hope it goes well!

Everything went well! I have never been to a counselor before, but this seems to be a positive step in getting over my demons. Instead of just focusing on my drinking, he is trying to work with me to figure out why I am the way that I am when it comes to my personality and what is the motivation behind my habits. I am looking forward to the next appointment that I have with him, this has been a highly informational and positive experience.

That's great.

I do believe we have to go beyond the drinking if we want to recover, and it sounds like that's what you're doing.

The therapy I have received over the last 3 weeks since I went sober and drank my last drip of Vino, is just utterly magic!

Natural endorphins having the time of their life after each session!

Nuke, I wish you all the best with this. THIS could be really something spectacular for you. Rip the deepest root out of this very evil, toxic, vindictive plant!!!
