I get to start over

well here I am. planning on attending mtg tonight getting a white chip. not the way I had planned for Jan 22 to go. I'm in a mess of emotions of course. 9 yrs gone with one swallow that is tough I recognize the outcome could have been a lot worse so I'll just be where I am and sit through it

Hi and welcome. Glad you're back on the wagon and that you get to start over!

Since you're jumping right back into your sobriety, I don't think your 9 years are lost. You just got a flat tire on the way. Just change the flat and keep driving.

And try not to be too hard on yourself, okay? Mistakes happen, but they only amount to failure if we don't learn from them.

We are here traveling this journey with you. You can do this.

Nine years gone, but not lost. That's a lot of sobriety to build on if you put a halt to the drinking right now.

I lost over five years clean time by using this past June. Hard to see all that time lost, but I returned more vigilant than ever regarding my recovery. Sobriety is a blessing and a daily reprieve. As in today. If you are sober today, that's a good thing.

Welcome to SR, KTryItAgain; glad you found us.

Nine years is an awesome accomplishment; those years are NOT lost; they are yours and cannot be taken from you. What a great launching pad - from nine years to forever!!!!!

So glad to hear you are back. No shame in raising your hand as a newcomer and starting over. Please stay vigilant in your recovery and work your program to the best of your ability.

The alternative could be devastating to your family and everyone around you. This disease is unrelenting in it's effort's to pull you back in so keep your defenses up.

Congratulations on getting back on the sobriety path.
We can learn from our mistakes and that of others. Like I stopped this or that without realizing I slipped back into old thinking.

It was said at meetings that the first drink was preceded awhile ago by less healthy thinking processes like cutting back on meetings, stopping asking for help, isolating and on and on.

No one said staying sober is a cake walk every day, mostly it depends on our input.

Bottom line is it works IF we work it.

BE WELL
