Opticians/Doctors can do great things these days, it's probably best that they caught it now and not later on down the road, so that's a positive.

My dad had Glaucoma, he had been wearing glasses all his life but the pressure was controlled with eye drops, and in general his blood pressure was high so he was also on blood pressure tablets too.

Though once it was diagnosed and treated it didn't cause him any sight problems!!

Hang in there!!

Yeah--I've got glaucoma, and the eye drops have completely arrested it. It's definitely not a problem when they find it early.

I don't blame you! It's scary to think about but don't get ahead of yourself. It may be you don't have it. And if you so, the earlier they catch it the better of you are.

MrJustin your pressure is a tiny bit over normal, 18 is normal. A follow up test will be happening because your readings are higher than than, but not by much. You are not going blind.

I had a medical emergency some years ago with off the scale readings and I was diagnosed with glaucoma. With drops (like Gilmer) and a minor operation on my right eye, I now have pressures of around 16 and can do everything anyone else can do. It would be a good idea to have your blood pressure checked too.

Besides being tested the best thing you can do for yourself is stay off alcohol and non-prescription drugs.

Thanks Marcher,

So the drops have stopped it in its tracks?

I would not worry. Your pressure is a bit high. Mine was about 24 years ago. The drops they gave me were very effective and stopped the progress of the glaucoma. Very little has changed. My pressure dropped to 18 and now, with additional medication, it's 14. So it is likely to be with you. But it is very important to have your eyes checked at least twice a year and more often if required. My wife, worried about other health issues, failed to do that and her glaucoma got much worse. Once the optic nerve has become damaged the only thing they can currently do is prevent further damage.
