Got rid of a security blanket today
Way to go, Brynn! That's really great. I have my own stash of security blankets. I forgot about them until I read this post. Benzos the doctor prescribed when I first quit for the anxiety. Haven't had any anxiety in a long time so apparently I don't need them.
Really interesting topic. Before, I used to hang on the pills because what if drank? I would need something for the withdrawal. So I'm now wondering if keeping them is just me not letting go of the bad thinking.
Thanks for your bravery.

Great move! You never learn to live without those things until you actually live without them.
When I first tried to quit in September, I hung onto a bottle of vodka, same reason - just in case. I guess it was in case I couldn't handle being sober. Of course I drank it after a couple of weeks. This time I kept nothing, and it was the worst feeling of vulnerability, like being outside in the snow with no way to get warm if I started to freeze. And there were definitely some times when I kicked myself for not keeping any, but now I'm so glad I didn't. I would be right back where I started.
Getting rid of those things is a huge step, you should be very proud. That takes a lot of strength.
