Can't sleep
Can't sleep
Why is it after I've been sober for a while the urge to drink gets so bad again. I have arthritis bad in my joints and can ignore it when I'm awake but really ruins my sleep. I used to always drink before bed just to sleep thru it. Well just posting because I've been awake for hours. Hope everyone struggling to stay sober sticks it out. Pretty tough sometimes.

Being awake in the middle of the night again is beyond frustrating, I start thinking of when my old hangout opens. Wallys house of booze, can you think of a worse place for an alcoholic to go? just typing for something to do.
The older we get we experience new
or existing pains more times than we
really want to. Whether drunk or sober
those pains will exist. Drinking or using
just amplifies them more.
For me, as an example, am in my mid
50's, for women we know about that
menopause stage in life. The mood swings,
hot flashes, weight gain, hormones out of
wack.
Im sure if I were still drinking, I would
be numbing all those uncomfortable issues
and, NO, they wont disappear and NO, it
wont cool me off.
For today and some time now, sober, I
replaced drinking to cope with healthy
solutions. If I don't know how to do something,
I research to get my answers and I reach
out to others in recovery for help, suggestions
and guidance.
My research for my menopause, still as my
own example, use fans close to my bed, chair,
to take care of my hot flashes. I do whatever I
need to do, for me, to keep me comfortable
during this time of my life.
I also researched diet, nutrition, exercise,
anything I can learn from to help me live
a more comfortable, healthy, cool life while
in this stage of life. Alcohol will not be
a factor in my mid life issues or obsticles.
Same thing for you with your arthristis. Many
of us live with arthristis due to the wear and
tear on our bodies thru out our life. Drinking
only aggravates the situation. With a sober
mind using a program of recovery as our stepping
stones building a healthy foundation to live on
and incorporate in our everyday life and situations,
we can research, google, information or healthy
solutions for living with arthritis.
There's always healthy solutions available
for us to use in our daily lives that doesn't
use alcohol or controlled substances that
would cause more harm than good to our
problems.
Research and knowledge are powerful tools
to make life more manageable and healthier
for us under many circumstances.
