Worst reason to drink

Well, I thought I'd heard it all, but today my AV came up with a new one. I'm sick -- physically. I'm running a fever and I've got aches/pains and a stuffy nose. Maybe it's the flu; not sure.

At any rate, I am barely making it through the day. So what does my AV start telling me? "A drink would make you feel better."

This has to be the worst reason my mind has ever come up with for drinking. I'm physically sick, and alcohol would only make me even sicker. Yet, for some reason my mind is trying to persuade me that some wine would help ease the physical symptoms.

The hangover with the flu would be horrendous. You don't want that. Tell your AV to get lost.

I'm too new to this board to know what AV means but I'm guessing its something like Flip Wilson's (Geraldine) "the devil made me do it."

Anyway, yeh, being old Navy, any port in a storm will do is not always true... some are filled with pirates. When I'm sick, most likely, all the HALTs are operating... well at least lonely and tired are.

Yeah, tell that AV to go pound sand! Mine has been pretty quiet since I stopped drinking but it wanted me to have some wine last night. I said, "no wine for you!"

Mine has done that. When I was drinking and I would get sick I would have hot tea and whiskey and call it "cowboy medicine". Somehow my AV has completely hidden the memory of throwing up said "medicine" all over a brand new area rug one night.

Pretty much

Its an Rational Recovery term - addictive voice. It's become a convenient forum shorthand here

Mine has been whispering nonsense in my ear this past week for sure...

i) Stress of moving in less than a month...Come on drink ONE day!

ii) Family will be away for 2 weeks after Christmas...House to yourself...Just ONE day no one will find out!

iii) Boss is gone from work for the next couple of days...Don't work...Go drinking during lunch...He won't find out.

It doesn't state that the last drink i took landed me in the hospital 81 days back...And that i used to drink myself silly almost daily from start to finish...So yeah it won't be JUST ONE DAY.

And my boss/work which has had my back/supported me through these past couple of years with alcoholism..I'm pretty sure word would get back to them from SOMEONE in the office.

It's all lies and deception. Alcohol holds NOTHING positive in my life now.

N O T H I N G!

The real worst reason to drink is --- ANY.

It's terrible reason to drink but and excellent reason to take good care of yourself by doing things like eating homemade soup, drinking teas and juices, cuddling up with a good book or movie, taking a nap, being easy on yourself, and focusing only on things that are the most important while letting the more trivial stuff slide while you take care of your health. I hope you feel better soon!
