Day 2- shaky and can't sleep
Day 2- shaky and can't sleep
Hi there, this is my second day with no drink.. It's almost 1am and I can't sleep and feel anxious and shaky.. I've been drinking daily for the past 2 years to the point I'm having 1.5 - 2 bottles of wine every night..how long will it take to start feeling better? I need to stop drinking and lead a good example for my kids
during my quits I usually start feeling better by day 5.
One suggestion: Talk to a Doctor to see if it's OK to take melatonin and/or trytophan before bedtime. That really helped (helps) me.
And congrats on making the right choice!

Hi, Nic. Welcome to SR.
It varies from person to person, for me it's about 3 days. By day 4 the shakiness has gone down and I feel completely sober and mentally clearer.
Hang in there, it's tough at first but it does get better!

Hey Nic233-
I think quite a few of us had sleep issues when we first stopped. I know that I did.
Once this normalizes, I think that you'll notice that the sleep is much better in terms of restfulness. It might take a bit of time though. The shakiness and some of the other stuff left me within a week or so, but it took longer to start sleeping like a normal person. I do still have some problems here and there, but more with getting back to sleep once I awoke. I think that's more to do with my brain then anything else. I'm the type that will ponder on things that were upsetting to me, which makes it hard to fall back to sleep on occasion.
As people have mentioned, once you normalize things should improve.

I'm on day 8, I felt better after a couple days, but yesterday I had massive anxiety. I'm great today though.
What a roller-coaster! But I trust the others that have been sober for a while. They are doing well, we'll get there too.
Hang in there xoxo
I'm glad that you're going to talk to your dr soon.
You can expect to feel better in a few more days. There is lots of support here, and I hope you keep posting and reading here.

I've been in your situation many times, it is definitely no fun. It a great decision to see a Dr. Be totally honest about your intake (they have heard worse), the Dr. might prescribe some anti-anxiety meds. I found when I didn't have the help of the meds during the 5 day withdrawal period, I would more than likely hit the bottle again. With meds helping me for a short period of time, I was much more likely to start with a fresh attitude toward continuing my recovery program. Also the meds will make it much easier to sleep...it is hard to concentrate on a recovery program when you are exhausted! Drink plenty of Gatorade or something similar to keep your electrolytes up.

The Doc was a good move.
I've found that chewable B12 tablets, milk thistle capsules,
flaxseed oil liquid caps, ginkgo biloba and turmeric capsules
help. Ask her if they're okay for you.
Careful with the V's. They can be very addictive.
