Inspiration

Ok, let me begin by saying that I am not one for dramatics but I wanted to share something of a special moment in time for me:

As I was laying in bed last night, taking inventory of my life, I thought about all of my achievements, all of my failures, who I am, and who I want to be. The profound realization hit me that the decision to quit drinking is not just about a lifestyle change but rather, a choice to allow myself to fulfill my potential as a human being, in whatever endeavors I choose.

I am standing at a clear crossroads in life; one direction leads to a downward spiral, and the other leads to at least the possibility of being the type of man that deep down, I truly aspire to be. Of course, sobriety in and of itself is not the only factor for success but I am certain that if I continue to allow my addiction to control my life, I will always be handicapped in my efforts to thrive as a person.

The night of Thanksgiving 2014 was a time that I will not forget.

Thank you to everyone here for making this a place that supports people in reaching their true potential.

Stay sober & reap the benefits

it comes down on your acceptance to realise that you cant drink safe or responsible

after that be that person you know you are

Good luck

Absolutely Wolf, the acceptance has been there for quite some time, and now the willpower and plan have come into play as well. If I have come this far as a drunk, there's no telling what I can do sober. Looking forward to Chapter II in life...

That is so important to realize and take to heart. Good post soberD

I read the following somewhere, I cant remember where, but it goes something like this:

'Hell: Your last day on earth and the person you became meets face to face with the person you could have become'

That's a strong motivator for me. Continuing to drink means I'll only be a fraction of the person i'm capable of being.

Hawk07 - I just stole that quote and posted it on my FB page. That scares me to death. Thank you for sharing that. I love it.

Thank you Hawk - funny you mention it, because I actually saw that quote posted in recent days and it definitely left an impression on me - in fact, it may have played a part in the moment I described. Look forward to moving forward to long-term sobriety with you!
