Hi Guys
Hi,
Im Sam from the UK,
I know I have problem and regularly drink 20 / 25 UK Units a night on normal nights (even in I can do 12 beers and a bottle of wine)
I know I have a problem, I need to for my other half, work, family etc and understand this my self - I work in the event trade and its been my full time work and passion since I left school and have been in it for over 18 years now (I started young) - This also leads to some long 3 day weekends which obviously doing events and festivals is already a red bull to a flag with what goes on but I cant leave as have no experience in anything else and I have a very good position in more then 1 company so work is always flowing in.
I need to meet others to talk to and speak too and really feel this could do alot for me...
Nice to meet you guys,
All the best,
Sam

Hey samn- Welcome.
I'm not sure if you indicated any goals for sobriety, but if that's what you're considering, then you found a great site. You mentioned that you do have a problem, which sounds like it might need to be addressed. If so, I look forward to seeing you around.

Hi Notimetoloose,
Kind of,
I have been able to stop for 6 months before and have done 6 or 7 times.... I tried after a hard emotional week on Sunday and had the most awful anxiety / heart beats so I am thinking of cutting down and down and stopping...
I did this with Cigarettes (4 months clean now) and also certain other things when I was a big raver and I stopped 7 years ago all cold turkey as we say (Im not going to hide anything there is no point esp when we talk about problems like these)... But this is giving me more horror then anything and its my last big hurdle....
Any suggestions?

Welcome Sam
I recommend you read and post here as much as you like. You'll read some great things and get some awesome ideas on to how may be best to tackle your problem.
SR really helped me turn my life around - I credit the support here with saving my life really.
I'm glad you found us
are you planning to see a DR as a first step - that's a fair whack to be drinking every night?

Hi Sam, As Dee said a Doctor is a great start. They can certainly help you through the first few days of withdrawal and make it safer and a little easier.
6 months is great and I bet you felt great...and you can do it again.
I keep sober via a hybrid/fusion of different things...here on SR is great, easy, log on and read or post what is on your mind.
AVRT also helped me, it is on the secular section of this website...in the first few months throw everything at getting and staying sober, it helps to change your mindset about drinking....stay hydrated and eat regularly.

Hi Sam, welcome to the community
I was on the rave/festival scene too.
I was a real druggie myself, Es, crack, weed, speed, acid, shrooms, etc. I've been clean from most drugs for about 10 years now, clean from weed about three months. Vaping instead of smoking now.
Sober for 45 days.
If I can do it, trust me, you can too.
I think starting at the docs is a good plan, and then you' ll need some solid support and a good recovery plan, AA, AVRT or something like that.
I've stayed sober mostly because of this forum.
Good to have you with us .
