Cat and mouse
Cat and mouse
This morning my cat caught a baby mouse in the house. She was probably playing with it or rather torturing it in another room for who knows how long until she finally brought the little thing to where I was sitting.
She put it down and it was so disoriented and in shock that it just ran right back towards the cat in its attempt to escape.
It reminded me of me in my struggles with alcoholism, a disease that has you in its claws. It is possible to escape but so confusing and scary at first. It will also let you live, for a while.... But each time it gets you in its claws again you leave a little more damaged. And it will chase you until eventually you perish.
I myself got out of its clutches for now and continue to move further and further away in the right direction but I know it's still there.
Happy ending for the mouse, I scooped it up in a little cup and put it outside. And this time it scurried off in the right direction.

Beautiful, Hawk.
Yes, for now just keep going in the right direction, that's all you need to do.
If things keep moving this way, perhaps someday cat and mouse will live together in peace forever.
Or maybe you will realize that there is neither cat nor mouse anymore, just one creature able to stay sober without too much struggle and handle challenges as they come and go.
It's the same thing, just two possible self-concepts and personal views.

Loved the story and brings home the craziness of addiction. The beast grabs you by the throat, going for the jugular. And its not even a real live. Just a parasite that requires keeping us alive, just enough. Barely.
Hope that you had a good day, Hawk.
