Thathombre...I am sorry to say that I once felt the same way about AA. I didn't feel it was a cult, but I didn't feel it necessary to go in there and tell my sob story to everyone however many times a week. I was very wrong to think of AA that way, and now go to 1 or 2 meetings per week. These are not weak people. AA is kind of a place to come and vent any frustrations or trouble you may be having staying sober to other alcoholics who understand you. Also, there's more than just that first step table where you admit your powerless, the regular tables I go to allow me to talk about how I stay sober, and how I apply the 12 steps to my everyday life. AA is not all about me either in my opinion, it's about going there to help others. It would be selfish of me not to go.
