Finding peace

I am not sure if this is unusual since I am only on day 5, but since my mindset has been that drinking is not an option anymore, I am at complete peace with it. It seems to bring a sense of calm.
Anyone else experience this?

It has been a month for me. It comes in goes. I feel liberated some hours, crave some hours, focused, then frazzled. Your brain seems to have a way of building self confidence then stripping it away in an instant. You can't claim victory ever, and must stay vigilant on not picking up that first drink. The stories on here about people having years into sobriety, faltering on one occasion then having months of relapse to only make it harder to quit again scare the bejezus out of me. Congratulations on 5 day, best of luck keeping on track.

Thank you Barnumb. Your advice was extremely helpful since it's good to know my feelings could change quickly to where I need to remain extremely vigilant. I am also scared of relapsing and do not want to relapse since I have a family member that attempted to get sober and went to rehab, but gave up. I thought the first 2 days were the hardest and really do not want to go through that again.

Hi and congratulations.
Peace can continue if we let it and stay sober.
It’s easy to say and sometimes it gets difficult but very doable with continued sobriety one day at a time in a row with work and necessary changes.

BE WELL

Heartcore has a post from last night on here about "Flare-ups." it is pretty insightful on how endorphin's ebb and flow during specific time frames after the last drink. They go in cycles starting right about 4-7 days, which is where you are at. then at regular intervals of time until 1-2 years. take a look at her post. I think recognizing the science behind that and being aware can make you more prepared to deal with it. May give you the ammo to ride out a 1-3 day period of wondering why you are feeling intense cravings, fuzziness, irritability etc. These flare ups are the times where we are at our weakest.
