Wrote a letter to ALCOHOL
Wrote a letter to ALCOHOL
24 hours have now past and I'm still sober. I know there are better days ahead thankfully. Yesterday I wrote a letter to Alcohol telling 'it' why we couldn't be 'friends' anymore. Man did that ever feel good. It's about 4 1/2 pages long! I must have re-read it 20 times throughout the day and every time I did new things came to mind...I'm sure now it could be 10 pages. Being 24 hours sober and having wrote the letter, this morning I truly feel I have broken the ties. Bring on day 2! Have a great and sober day ya'll!

Great idea coffee, I've never literally put pen to paper but I have done a sort of mental 'retrospective ' of those ugly moments of my life and whether or not alcohol was involved and if so, what role did it play. Needless to say, if drinking wasn't at the core most incidents it certainly aggravated the situation. It absolutely amazes the logical side of me that I allowed that wretched relationship to continue.
I am proud of you for sticking with this. Treat yourself to some good eats today, go to bed sober, and wake up tomorrow morning feeling content in your efforts. I'm rooting for you!

Great idea with the letter. I did something similar - I wrote about all the awful things alcohol did to me and how it made me feel. I re-read it whenever I have cravings or thoughts of alcohol moderation, and it has put those urges to rest immediately.
I urge you to do the same next time your AV comes knocking.

Good for you Coffee! I find keeping a journal, as suggested by my Rehab,my Sponsor, well..you get the idea....is really a fantastic way to vent and get out my thoughts/feelings. I love that you added to it, sounds like you discovered a very helpful tool for your Recovery tool box.

Thanks for your post! I read it and it inspired me to do something similar.
Mine is not a letter, but a list titled "why I am breaking up with alcohol". I listed any reason I could think of as to why alcohol is not good for me or my life, any bad experience I could think of that I had due to drinking, any unhealthy drinking behaviors, and any consequences I have had due to drinking.
Very helpful to get it all typed out in a list and see how long I have been having alcohol related problems and how many areas it has negatively impacted my life.
