New to SR and on Day 17! (Almost 18!)
Hello, good folks at SR!
Long-time reader/lurker and first-time poster here. I'm happy to join the community and hope that I can offer, as well as receive, lots of support.
I am recovering from mental health issues, mainly severe depression and anxiety. I self-medicated with alcohol for years, often in large amounts over relatively short and sporadic periods of time. I consider myself to have been part of the 'Binge Drinking Division', as someone here once brilliantly put it.
My last drink was on September 29, 2014, making September 30 my first full day of sobriety. By my count, I am now on Day #17, and will officially be on Day #18 in about an hour (it's approximately 11 p.m. here in my time zone in the States). It's been very, very difficult at times but well worth the effort. I feel fantastic.
I've had a couple of previous attempts at sobriety, one that lasted 17 days, and another that went 25. In both instances, I let my guard down because I felt better and made the incorrect assumption that I didn't need any kind of professional help after all.
I start mental health counseling in a little under two weeks and will be looking to include some form of alcohol treatment.
I am in my early 30s, a dad to two kids, and hope to spend the years I have left as a healthy, vibrant, permanent non-drinker.
Thanks again for letting me join you all...I'm really looking forward to learning from all of you and sharing in return.

Congratulations day 18
Just keep taking things one day at a time... Hell.. When I put the needle down 215 days ago i was taking things second by second at first... If you want a better life for you and your children then keep doing exactly what your doing because it looks like its working for you.. Never be afraid to ask for help... Your not superman but I hope your a superdad... Best to you always... Painless
