Anxiety, panic, shame setting in
I felt really guilty and filled with shame until I did some research and understood that alcoholism is a disease and isn't my fault. I'm not the real me when I'm drinking, no one is. I did stupid things because I was sick.
You were ill, now you're treating yourself. There's no shame in it, it's as much your fault as being unable to run on a broken leg.
Hold your head high, these people have never experienced your pain, they have no right to judge.
