Apples and Oranges
Diabetes and Addiction. These two conditions are often quoted as similar--NOT.
There are 3 types of Diabetes: 1,2 and Gestational.
Type 1 is an autoimmune disorder--NOT a disease.
Type 2 is mainly caused by lifestyle choices (obesity and inactivity).
Gestational is a temporary nutritional imbalance due to pregnancy.
Type 2 Diabetes and Alcoholism DO have some dis-ease corollaries in that over-consumption is the main culprit.
Addiction is a stand-alone condition that needs no comparison to make it serious. It is not a food allergy (and I like this analogy) --those folks don't say eff-it and eat peanuts anyway. It is a well worn path trod into by many and out of by some.
Just a rant. I have both type 1and2 diabetics in my home and 2 recovering alcoholics with some overlap. Everyone is well btw but treatment is different for all.
