Fell Off but Jumping Right Back On
Fell Off but Jumping Right Back On
So last night for the first time in a while I actually had a couple of beers during the football game. Not sure why but I basically did it without thinking about it. I can't say I'm mad at myself or anything. It just showed me that I'm human and teaches me to keep working. The only fail is when I quit trying.
Yeap, worst thing we can do is quit trying!!
Also important to get straight back to Sobriety, for me I wouldn't be right back to my worst on the first day, it would be a gradual spiral over a week, so best to deal with all those thoughts of starting tomorrow and nip it in the bud straight away!!

Glad you decided to keep trying Shawn. Any idea what you might try differently this time? "Just drinking a few beers without thinking about it" indicates that you may need a little better plan for next time the urge comes along.
The thing about a relapse is you never know when you won't come back from one. We rationalize and minimize, which is exactly what you are doing. Good for coming back but maybe try to change the mindset. Personally, I would be pissed and have greater resolve going forward.
Basically what I did was I decided to let myself get to relaxed in all of it and just slipped. Lesson learned. Got rid of the rest of the beer I had here today by throwing it out so I won't even have to worry about having it. I may have bent some and gave up a day. I sure didn't break though.

Glad to hear you're staying committed, Shawn. Heaven knows I've got no room to fault a falter. Personally I've found that the light slips--a couple beers during the game, no problems--are worse for me, convince me that maybe I can "handle" a couple occasionally after all. Hope you can avoid that same trap I've fallen into in the past. It's a sticky one. Great job nipping it in the bud and keep up the resolve, sir.
