Continuing to drink is like hitting the snooze button

I hit the snooze button this morning at 5.42am. I have to be working by 6.00, so it was a foolish decision. Work was going to happen - like it or not - and by hitting snooze I was only going to make my morning more difficult, rushed, and painful! After finally getting up, I was rushing around the house, cursing myself for waiting so long to get moving. Why hadn't I just set the alarm earlier? My day would be off to a much better start if I'd have simply bit the bullet earlier that morning.

It got me thinking about quitting booze. Each time you say "I'll quit tomorrow" or "I should probably fix this...later", it's just like hitting the snooze button. But the consequences are much more severe. In my case, they were almost deadly. I hit the snooze button for YEARS, and in the process I became unemployed, lost relationships, and my health faltered greatly.

For those of you out there still hitting the snooze button, I urge you to WAKE UP. It's not easy to throw that warm, cozy, familiar blanket off your body and put your feet on the cold floor...but you've got to do it. Real life is out there waiting for you, and every time you hit snooze you are letting a wonderful opportunity pass you by.

Make today the day!

No more snooze button for me!

You're so right, great analogy!
I found that in my sobriety the worst days were those when i didn't immediately get up at first alarm and extended the agony.
When i was drinking doesn't matter, every single day was the worst

Felt a little nauseous this morning but nothing compared to when I was drinking. Stayed in bed for another 5 min. Got to work on time - no problem. Sobriety - what a concept.

great perspective BigS.
Unfortunately for me, I didn't get a chance to hit snooze. My alarm never went off. Someone came in the room and flipped the bed over with me in it. I got up right away.

LOL, to be honest that's exactly what happened to me too. However, I think the alarm had been going off for a while...I just chose to ignore it!

Thank-you, bigsombrero... Eerily, you read my mind here. I have been contemplating the same for a few weeks now. Change is not easy, but it has to be done. I have been hitting the snooze button for way to long. Life is slipping by and it is slowly passing day by day, week by week, month by month, etc... (it is sneaky like that)...

And, the lost time continues to add up. It is truly like "hitting the snooze button".

Tomorrow always comes and then it goes... And THEN there is always a new tomorrow... which goes too...

I very much appreciate your post. It came at a very timely moment for me.

Thank-you.

That is a good analogy. It was easy when sonething was happening I didn't like, or most of the time I just didn't want to be available, hit that snooze button. I'm glad I haven't felt the need to do that for a while.

Great thread and awesome analogy.

Kind of ironic cause since I got sober, I wake up half an hour before my alarm, top shape and ready to rock the day.
