Have you ever had an idol who was an alcoholic?

Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Whitney Houston, Shia LeBeouf, Steve Martin, Tim Allen, Kim Bassinger, Mickey Rourke, William Shatner, Nancy Reagan, Britney Spears, Christina Aquilera, Howard Stern, Axl Rose, Judy Garland, Matthew Fox, Michelle Rodriquez, John Goodman, Michael J. Fox, Reese Witherspoon, Mick Jagger, Linda Hamilton, Owen Wilson (I think most on this list are recovered), I've suspected Paula Abduls but she denies being an alcoholic, she says it's pain meds.
I guess these aren't idols, I don't know that I idolize anyone really.

"I'm an alcoholic and an addict in recovery. I'm very allergic to alcohol. Every time I drink it I break out in handcuffs and end up on the six o'clock news."

Ya, unfortunately, in my teens and 20's I idolized hard-partying rock stars like Jim Morrison, John Lennon, and bands like Guns n' Roses, Oasis. I read all the biographies on them and then in my own mind glamorized their life-style. All my old idols who aren't dead are sober now so that's what I look up to them now for.
Quite a few of the people I most admire have had addiction problems.
A few of them have already been mentioned but Russell Brand, who I have been a huge fan of since about 2005 and my admiration grows every day, is kind of an idol to me. Also Scottish comedian and recovering alcoholic Brian Limond AKA Limmy. I don't know either of them personally but they are both very opinionated and absolutely fearless when it comes to voicing their opinions. I find that I agree with almost all of what they have to say about the world. I don't think it's a coincidence that they are both recovering addicts and I find myself on the same wavelength as them, more so than any other celebrities.

This is his anti-Drug Anthem; the last Song he played before ODing in his Hotel Room. Amazing, unrealized potential. He wasn't necessarily an Idol, but sho could play.
The end of this Song sends Chills up my Neck. Absolutely tearin' it up on one of the best Analog Tape R&R Recordings I know of.
I genuflect in humility before the extensive Cultural knowledge of soberjuly!

When i was youger, i saw "Bad Santa". At that moment i thought that he was the coolest guy, drinking his a** off and not giving a s*** about anyone, openig his car door and a dozen empty bottles and beer cans falling off.
Earlier this year, when i was struggling to put together some days sober and slipped one night, i watched it again intoxicated. I bursted into tears crying out loud: "I'm just like him! I'm the bad santa!"
Great actor though, Billy Bob Thornton.
