Reasons to Drink

I decided to make a list of "reasons" to drink (aka triggers). Feel free to add your own to the list!

The sun came up / the sun is going down.
I am going on vacation / I am on vacation / I am returning from vacation
My plane is late / I am going on a plane / I am on a plane
I got a new job / I got a promotion / I got fired
I had a long day at work / I got off early from work / I am at work
I bought a new car / I sold my car / my car broke down / I wrapped my car around a telephone pole
I have family coming in town / family is in town / my family finally left town
We are going out to dinner / I am out for dinner / Dinner was great
It was a long drive
I am bored
It’s 5 o’clock
I want to have fun with my kids / my kids are driving me nuts / I want to make a kid
It’s a nice day outside / nothing better to do in this bad weather
I’m tired / I have lots of energy / I need to go to sleep

My list was endless.

There are no reasons to drink. They're all excuses.

Toward the end, I didn't even need a
reason to drink. Way back, I would
use the excuse that I needed to drink
to relax, after coming home from a
very stressful job.

Love it Breadfin. What a coincidence, I had a list just like that.

In the end, my reason for drinking was to stop the shakes so I could function. Terrible times - so thankful they are over.

Just found out my cousin fell down the stairs and died yesterday. It is the things like that that test us - but it wouldn't change anything if we had a drink would it? xxx

I'm sorry about your loss Kate.

Oh, wow, Kate, so sorry for your loss.

Big triggers for me are Thursday nights, to kick off the weekend, and then each weekend night, but especially after a busy or productive day and a very nice day. Then, A blizzard or big snow storm is a big one, and cooking dinner on a weekend evening. Those are very specific ones for me, and also certain TV shows that I enjoy. I would enjoy unwinding with wine as I watched TV after getting my little ones to bed. That was when my drinking became daily and slowly escalated.

But yeah, really just all excuses once it gets out of control and the switch has flipped to alcoholic drinking.
