Hello
I created an account because I want to get serious about getting back on track. I went well over a year without drinking, now have gotten pretty drunk about once a week this last month. It is not that I drink all the time, but that I don't have a very well functioning off button. I just don't want to be that person and I felt so good when I was not drinking\, not to mention that the dark place I end up at isn't really a way to be on so many levels. Thanks all and I hope to read lots in these forums.

Hello, and welcome.
I didn't have a shut-off button either.
My heavy drinking led me to some dark places, too.
It's not how often we drink, it's how it effects when we do drink.
Didn't effect me too well, and I ended up a full blown drunk.
You've had some sober time behind you, let's do it again. You'll find lots of support here.
Best to you.

Welcome Erik. You made a good decision to come here and also for realizing it's time.
I did have an OFF button. My problem was I forgot how to count after the first couple.
So my OFF button was never pushed.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the supportive words. I think it is time to come up with a game plan and get back on track. I'll try and use this forum as a place to both give and receive support, but also keep me honest.
Hi Erik and a very warm welcome Like yourself and many others here, my off button was hard to reach too! But I found that being that kind of drinker has actually been an advantage for me. The real cravings don't kick in until I've had a drink - so it takes far less willpower to refuse that first one than ever it would to (try to) refuse a second
It's good to have you with us. You'll find lots of understanding and support on this site

Glad to have you back Erik.
Sounds like you learned something valuable. I was once sober 3 yrs. & when I started up again it was hell to get off it. I'm so glad you want to reclaim your life. We know you can.

I have not shared more here since last week, but just wanted to say I have not drank since then. I broke the cycle, at least for this last weekend. Coming here was kind of like creating some accountability. I'll share more later when I'm up for it, but just wanted to let you know I took this seriously and took the supportive feedback to heart.
