Medications
I wasn't sure where to post this.
Because I have had seizures in the past, I take half of a 0.5 mg tablet of rivotril (klonopin) at night. It is prescribed by my neurologist and I am under strict supervision. I get 14 tablets a month to last me about a month. (No messing, no taking more than I am supposed to.) My doctor says because of my seizure history I will probably have to take a small amount of medication for the rest of my life. He is happy to leave me on this until my review appointment and it seems to be suiting me for now anyway.
I am well aware that it is addictive and I take it exactly the way I am prescribed. So I guess I am wondering if this means that I am completely sober? I have read the opinions online. I have been sober from alcohol for over five months.
I am not looking for medical advice, I get that from the consultant. I am just curious to hear other people's opinions and thanks for any opinions x

I think if you're taking meds as directed and they're meds that have been prescribed to you because you need them, it's nobodys business but yours or your Drs, Tetra.
If you're 'not sober' then I'm 'not sober' too, and so would many others here
I don't feel 'not sober'

Thank you all for your advice.
I read articles like this: benzo.org.uk - Stevie Nicks: "Klonopin - more deadly than coke" and I get confused because I haven't had any bad experiences at all. But I'm not abusing it either.

Tetra, I dont think the type of med matters as long as you need it for your health and are taking it as prescribed by your doctor. My niece has ADHD and takes amphetamines to treat it. I doubt that she would be regarded as an addict or not sober
Btw, love your little bunny. Makes my heart melt.

Hi Tetra. you will probably get different opinions about this because I have read them before...the if you are taking anything then you aren't really sober. Personally, if your doctor, knowing your history, has prescribed them to you for a legitimate need like your seizures and you are taking them correctly in the prescribed dosage, I say you are sober. There is a portion in the AA approved book Living Sober about medications and It pretty much reflects what I just wrote. It is all based on the individual really. Some people abuse them. I also have a prescription for klonopin that my doctor wrote me to take as needed for anxiety. She is fully aware of my drinking history and follows up with that each time I see her. I don't take them every day. In fact, haven't taken one nor felt a need in a few weeks. It all depends. If I started taking them every night and in excess of the daily dosage I would say that wasn't being sober.
