Smile Necomers * Learn To Be Still

Learn To Be Still

There's many ways to quiet our minds
Those days where there are way to many
thoughts bouncing around, we lose focus

I remember literally
putting my hands on my ears
to stop all the
NOISE & CHAOS

Good Grief!!!!

I needed to do more than that.

Every morning I meditate, it quiets my mind and sets me up for a good day.
All though some mornings it's a bit hard with a little dog thinking he should play toss the ball haha.

I dance for half an hour after I meditate, (scary image lol) :c018 We need to move these amazing bodies, we've been given.

I soon learned, all it was, was a bunch of jumped up THOUGHTS, JUST THOUGHTS, that didn't serve me any purpose, nor does it you.

If you're not meditating, learn to do it. What have you got to lose. I tried it years ago, but I didn't have the right tools to help, today I do.

If I Can Do It, So Can You

One of the best songs for this. The Eagles song, "Learn To Be Still."

It's just another day in paradise
As you stumble to your bed
You'd give anything to silence
Those voices ringing in your head
You thought you could find happiness
Just over that green hill
You thought you would be satisfied
But you never will-
Learn to be still

We are like sheep without a shepherd
We don't know how to be alone
So we wander 'round this desert
And wind up following the wrong gods home
But the flock cries out for another
And they keep answering that bell
And one more starry-eyed messiah
Meets a violent farewell-
Learn to be still
Learn to be still

Now the flowers in your garden
They don't smell so sweet
Maybe you've forgotten
The heaven lying at your feet

I've posted this before. It's a good start to meditating.
Shut your eyes, totally relax your body, and let her voice guide you.
I promise, this is good.

Great post, Jus!

Quieting the mind is a huge step in recovery and it was not a natural thing for me to do. I was so used to the tape running through my mind, it took awhile before I could actually be still. Something I learned is that we are Human 'Beings', not Human 'Doings'.

Super post !

Meditation that I began in my third month of sobriety made a HUGE difference.

Those habitual thoughts just couldn't stick to me like they used to.
They drop off. The obsession dwindles.

And it helps with everything else in your life too. Promise!

yes, thanks for the post. I sit in quiet and read out of my Big Book every night, and often in the morning. maybe I just need to sit and quiet and meditate after I've done my reading. maybe just maybe the monsters under my bed would start getting along with the voices inside of my head.

There are a lot of ways to meditate, Eckhart Tolle calls them "portals", but I think it's all the same thing, I'll list my two favorites.

1) Entering the body; you sit and focus on the energy within yourself. Your heart beat, the feeling of aliveness in your hands, your feet, your torso, your head, everywhere. If you focus on it you can go deeper into it as far as you want.

2) Surroundings; Sometimes when I'm on break at work I just sit and focus entirely on the store. There are things that are obvious right away like food timers, peoples voices... But when you start to watch, more subtle things start to appear as well; plumbing pipes, heating radiators, faucet drips. You'll notice irregularities in the floor, in the ceiling, the way the grain of wood goes on a door, the smell in the air... I discovered this when I was forced to do it for a school assignment, what a gift that was!
