3 Weeks
I am happy to say that my three week mark finds me improving in mental clarity, productivity and general spirits. My therapist has been helping me develop the tools I need for a lifetime of coping without drugs and alcohol. My big plan is going according to, well, plan. Every day without that monkey, every day without being locked in a prison of my own creation is such a blessing.
This morning as I drove to work I thought about how many mondays, hell most days of the week, I drove to work the same way and I thought to myself..never again. I quit! Less than 10 hours later, like clockwork, like some infernal machination there I was at the liquor store buying my nightly fill.
Hundreds of times. Thousands. I promised myself to stop, I made deals with myself I could not keep half of a day. Madness. Insanity. Sheer delusional lunacy of the worst type.
I drove to work with the sun on my face, the breeze in my hair and the tunes rocking. Knowing full well that the road I am on may be long and winding, but forever in my rear view mirror is that prison cell.
Always with humility and thankfulness I remain moving.
