Allergic to Anti craving meds

So I found out today I'm likely allergic to Naltrexone. I also have borderline allergies to campral. Those are the two anti craving medicines out there. Those pills have caused me to have heart palpitation, dizziness, hypotension, and irregular blood pressure.

So needless to say, I can't take anti craving medicine. I dont really feel like they do much anyway... I still crave alcohol like there's no tomorrow, so I guess I just get to eliminate a pill.

I never took any meds - I'm sure you'll hear here from others too.

I think as long as you have support and as long as you're willing to make whatever changes you have to to safeguard you're recovery, you can stay sober.

have you tried urge surfing at all?

Yeah it doesn't make me sad necessarily, it was just a security that I had help with my addiction. But the longer I take all these anti craving pills, I realize I start feeling worse. So its better to not take them.

Oh and my doctor told me to stop taking them. Its important to know I didn't just "make a decision". It was doctor ordered.

Hopefully it isn't going to be a big deal.

Many are able to stop without them, me included. You can do it as well.

yeah that's kind of how I looked at it today. Those anti craving pills were affecting my heart function. That's pretty scary to me. (even if it's because I'm allergic) Gonna have to suck it up and keep going.

Justin it will feel good to do this without adding a med to replace the substance you are quitting.

With the exception of some Benadryl the first couple of months to help me sleep, I did the cold turkey thing. It's uncomfortable but I didn't feel the least bogged down later!

Good luck man!

It's whatever keeps you sober in my opinion. It was more of an experiment. I couldn't quit WITHOUT anti craving pills, so I though I'd give it a shot.

You'll do fine.

Just keep your doc updated on any changes or problems.

My bp and heart rate has been doing somersaults. Just keep an eye on things.

You're gonna be through with this soon and then can just remember not to pick up.

You've done so good.

Glad you're hear justin. If i did it without meds you can too Come on here when you are feeling a craving and just write it...believe it or not it helps. Helps to tell someone too. Do you have 3D support? Hope you start to feel better soon. And I promise it gets easier....if it didn't I wouldn't still be here!

Hopefully you can learn to live sober without those meds. My doctor has always told me that the best thing to do is work through the craving so that long term I can effectively deal with them in a positive way. He's all about using meds as a last resort. Kind of ticked me off at first but I realized he's probably right.

Yeah it was kind of a last resort thing. He scheduled weekly appointments with me for a month. The first three appointments I couldnt stay sober the whole week. So hopefully the pills gave me a boost and I can just get all of them out of my system and start living a healthier life.

I know it's a little scary to be without the meds but you've been sober the best part of 2 weeks now Justin - I reckon you did that, not any meds,
